If you are looking to make some changes to your physique, lose body fat and improve your body composition and find yourself feeling a little overwhelmed of where to get started, keep reading. Before you jump on the treadmill or start slashing calories, I’d like to share 6 things for you to consider before diving into a designated dieting phase:

Six Questions To Ask Yourself

ARE YOU CURRENTLY EATING ENOUGH FOOD?

Would you want to start a road trip with an empty tank of gas? Probably not…

If you are looking to start a fat loss phase you want to make sure that you have been eating at or above your maintenance calories. Consider doing a dietary history audit to know where you are at now.

WHAT IS YOUR BIOFEEDBACK?

Your biofeedback are the signals that your body gives you in response to what’s going on in your body internally. Asking yourself questions to get more intune with how you are actually feeling is crucial to know.

How is your body responding to your current protocols?

How are you energy levels?

How hungry are you?

How is your sleep quality?

How is your recovery?

How is your digestion?

Are your hormones in check (regular cycle)?

If any of these is sub-par probably not a great time to enter into a deficit.

IS THIS A GOOD TIME FOR YOU TO DIET?

What’s going on in your life right now? Are you stressed? Do you have lots of travel coming up? Are you being pulled in a bunch of directions? Your answer to these questions gives a good idea if you should enter into a calorie deficit or maybe wait till things slow down.

DO YOU HAVE A STRONG WHY?

This should be deeper than “I want to lose weight”. Try to gain a deeper understanding of what your motivator is and the true reason is for wanting to lose the weight. Ask yourself what your ultimate end goal is and create clarity for what exactly you want from this experience.

WHAT IS YOUR MINDSET & ATTITUDE?

How is your attitude? Where is your mindset at? Are you excited about the process or are you feeling like it’s something you have to do? Are you negative and bitter towards the process? What is your focus on?

You want to be operating from a positive mindset, with an overall good relationship towards food and are ready to commit to a process.

WHAT’S YOUR GAME PLAN?

Do you have realistic expectations of how long you want to be in a deficit? Do you have a game plan of what kinda progress you should be expecting if you are adherent to the process?Do you have a plan after the diet ends? All things to consider how you want to approach your goals.

Consistency with both your nutrition & training is necessary when it comes to accomplishing a goal like fat loss and finding a routine that you can adhere to is key.

Oftentimes people will start a fat loss phase without looking at the big picture of things outside of how they emotionally feel in that moment. They start off all excited and motivated but when it comes to adhering to the plan long term… that’s a whole different story.

Before you get started you want to make sure that you are in an optimal place both physically and mentally, that you have a strong WHY behind what exactly you are trying to achieve and know what realistic actions you need to take to get there.
